Farmers by Day, Referees by Night

Eric and Leif Weyer are identical twins, fifth-generation Kansas farmers, and proof that when farming is in your blood — it never leaves. At just 17 years old, they got their first piece of ground to farm and never looked back. Starting out in the tough agricultural climate of the 1980s, they learned early what it meant to fight through high interest rates, volatile markets, and the uncertainty that defined that era. They talk openly about the good years, the hard years, and the lessons that only time and dirt can teach. But their story isn’t just about farming. For more than 20 years, Eric and Leif have also served the state of Kansas as basketball referees — bringing the same discipline, fairness, and love of the game to gyms that they bring to their fields every day. Now, as they look toward the future, their focus has shifted beyond just raising crops. They want to help the next young farmer get started — just like someone once helped them. Because to them, legacy isn’t about acres owned… it’s about opportunities passed down. This is a story about brotherhood, resilience, basketball, and a lifelong commitment to the land.
