How Investors Buy Farmland (And Lease It Back to Farmers)
Farmland is increasingly attracting outside investment—but how do those deals actually work?
In this episode of the Purdue Commercial AgCast Lessons From the Delta series, Chad Fiechter and Todd Kuethe speak with Colson Tester, an investment analyst with AcreTrader, a farmland investment platform based in Arkansas.
Colson explains how farmland investment platforms identify farms to purchase, evaluate land values, and structure deals for investors. The discussion also explores typical investment hold periods, expected returns, and how farms are often leased back to local operators.
During the visit, the group also toured one of the first farms AcreTrader purchased in the Mississippi Delta and discussed how irrigation systems and water management influence farmland values in the region.
