Farm Voices Podcast 02: Monte Bottens of Bottens Family Farm and @AgSolutionsNetwork
The Regenerative Agriculture Coalition interviews Monte Bottens of Bottens Family Farm in Cambridge, Illinois. Bottens Family Farm grows "corn and soybean, integrate some small grains for cover crop seed and also diversity- some wheat, triticale, barley." The farm also has a pastured meat business, raising "grass-fed and finished cattle, pastured pork that are raised in timber, and also pastured poultry, and mobile pasture layer eggs." These are sold direct to consumer through their website, Grateful Graze.
Monte is also the host of the @AgSolutionsNetwork AgEmerge Podcast!
Monte shares the regenerative farming and conservation agriculture methods practiced on the farm, how federal programs such as the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) have benefited the farm, and the areas where he has found it necessary to innovate his own approaches. He emphasis the importance of the connection between soil health, ecosystem health, and human health. We discuss specific ways the 2024 Farm Bill can support ranchers practicing climate smart agriculture.
The Farm Voices Podcast is produced by the Regenerative Agriculture Coalition, a working group of Climate Reality Project Leaders and Chapter Members.
